The full House of Representatives will reconvene at 11 a.m. local time to vote for their fourth Speaker nominee in less than a month.
Republican Congressman Mike Johnson of Louisiana was elected as the GOP nominee for Speaker of the House Tuesday night after the previous nominee, Tom Emmer of Minnesota, dropped out when it became clear he wouldn't get enough votes.
The 51-year-old Johnson will need 217 votes this afternoon to become Speaker.
Last night Johnson said his "intention" is to go to the House floor and, in his words, "make this official."
Former President Trump is urging House Republicans to rally behind Johnson for Speaker.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he would not make any endorsements in the race but said his "suggestion" to Republicans is to elect Johnson.
