Louisiana State Police are investigating the death of a man in the custody of Houma Police.

An officer pulled over a car for an equipment violation early Friday morning on Highway 3040 near Grinage St.

The driver reportedly resisted, but officers got him into the back of a patrol car, where they spotted him trying to hide bags of suspected drugs in his mouth.

He became unresponsive, and officers tried life-saving measures until EMS arrived.

The man, whose identity hasn't been released, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
