The New Orleans Branch of the National Weather Service is moving its radar station from Slidell to Hammond.

A spokesman says the move will give them a better radar picture of both New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

He says they'll have a better understanding of conditions closer to the ground, so their severe weather warnings will be more accurate.

The radar center has been in Slidell since 1994.
