Registered nurses at University Medical Center in New Orleans are making the move to unionize.
In a three-day vote from Thursday to Saturday, nearly three-quarters of the eligible voters supported the decision to join the National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United, the nation's largest union of registered nurses.
UMC becomes the first private-sector hospital in Louisiana to be unionized.
The vote is the state's largest National Labor Relations Board election in nearly 30 years.
