New Orleans is soliciting proposals for the demolition of the abandoned Plaza Tower.

City officials made the announcement on Tuesday.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell stated that the blighted downtown skyscraper is a dangerous eyesore.

The 45-story Plaza Tower on Howard Avenue is the third-tallest building in the city, and has been vacant since 2002.

The city's request for proposals to tear it down comes after years of contention with developer Joe Jaeger, who has been hit with fines for code violations.
