New Orleans Fire Department Superintendent Roman Nelson says he's planning ahead for responses to marsh fires in the coming year.
Nelson says NOFD is working with Homeland Security and other fire departments in the region to make sure they have the necessary equipment.
St. Bernard Parish Fire Chief Earl Borden Jr. says his department is putting portable pumps on boats so they can get closer to the problem.
Nelson and Borden are joining other fire chiefs in advising people how not to have their Christmas trees catch fire.
