The Belle Chasse Tunnel, opened in 1956, is permanently closed as of today.

The Belle Chasse Bridge and Tunnel Replacement project has eliminated the need for the tunnel.

Southbound traffic will use the new bridge, while northbound traffic will use the old drawbridge until the other side opens in April.

Plaquemines Parish residents will pay a 25-cent toll with a windshield sticker. Toll rates haven't been set for other users.
