Louisiana State Police are expected to stick around in New Orleans after Mardi Gras season ends.

A spokesman for Governor Jeff Landry says a new group of state troopers, known as Troop NOLA, will be stationed in the city to help the short-staffed New Orleans Police Department fight crime.

The French Quarter Management District supports the move, since violent crime in the city hurts tourism.

The state police are working with Landry, Attorney General Liz Murrill, Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams, and the New Orleans Police Department to make it happen.
