Additional federal funding is being made available to support passenger rail in Louisiana.
Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced another $400,000 in grants that can be awarded to the Southern Rail Commission for their plan to connect a number of cities across the south.
Part of that project would re-establish passenger service between New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
The Southern Rail Commission will be providing a 50-percent funding match of those federal grant dollars.
