A Florida man was arrested after he drove off a cliff during a police chase on New York's Long Island Monday (April 8). Southold Town police confirmed they booked 56-year-old Roger Foster, of The Villages, on several charges and traffic violations, including two outstanding arrest warrants, according to The Suffolk Times,

Authorities claim Foster slashed the tires of his ex-wife's vehicle outside her workplace. Reporters said the ex-wife works at Southold Town Hall Annex, which was locked down during the incident.

After Foster fled the small town, police officers and Suffolk County Aviation helicopters pursued him toward Riverhead, another town 30 minutes away from Southold. The suspect reportedly turned around, drove through Southold, and started heading to the town of Greenport.

Police said the hours-long chase ended when Foster ignored an end-of-road barrier, drove his car off the cliff, and landed in Long Beach Sound in Greenport. Authorities pulled the 56-year-old driver from the vehicle and took him into custody.

Officials revealed they issued two arrest warrants for Foster for allegedly violating the terms of his ex-wife's protection order. He was charged with second-degree criminal contempt, third-degree criminal mischief, unlawful fleeing, and multiple traffic law violations, according to the newspaper.
