The trial continues today for a lawsuit challenging Louisiana's new congressional map.

The hearing started Monday before a three-judge panel in Shreveport.

Louisiana lawmakers created the map earlier this year after a judge said a previous one violated the federal Voting Rights Act.

The existing map had one majority-minority district, but the judge said there should be two, since a third of Louisiana's population is black.

The redrawn map jeopardizes a seat now held by a Republican, and has already attracted a Democratic candidate.
