A resolution urging Gov. Jeff Landry to apply for federal food funds for children this summer is on its way to the House for consideration.
State Senators approved the resolution on Tuesday with a unanimous 34-0 vote.
The bill is in response to Landry's rejection of the federal Summer EBT Program earlier this year. Landry argued other programs exist to help feed children over the summer break.
The program grants eligible families $40 per child every month while school is out, totaling about $71 million in Louisiana.
