The city plans to relocate NOPD headquarters and three other public safety agencies by the start of hurricane season.

On Tuesday, the City Council signed the lease for the new police headquarters on Poydras Street at I-10, across the street from the Superdome.

Council leaders also announced plans to move Homeland Security, EMS, and parts of the fire department.

The new space is a warehouse once known to local residents as the Old Chiquita Banana Building.
