Jefferson Parish Residents Call For Guardrails On Roads Next To Canals

Jefferson Parish residents are calling for the installation of guardrails on roads alongside canals.

Proponents point to a number of accidents in which cars ended up in the ditch, sometimes with fatal results.

Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng says officials have considered covering the canals, but such a project "would be extremely expensive."

She says adding guardrails isn't always feasible, since they can compromise the integrity of a canal bank.
