The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority is suspending operation of the Chalmette Ferry for at least 90 days starting this Saturday.

Ferry riders are in for a summer of detouring across the Mississippi River by taking the Crescent City Connection. The right lane of the bridge is closed in both directions for work on the lighting system.

The ferry boat will be in dry dock for a Coast Guard inspection, which is mandatory for freshwater ferries every five years.
