A new report from an online lending service says Louisiana has the eighth-highest home insurance costs in the nation.

LendingTree says Louisiana homeowners pay an average annual premium of just over $3,500, compared to the national average of almost $2,500.

The report says home insurance rates in the United States have risen nearly 38 percent since 2019.

In addition to rising home prices and inflated costs of building materials, Louisiana lost a number of insurers thanks to severe hurricanes in recent years.
