The National Weather Service says last month was the warmest May on record at New Orleans International Airport, with an average temperature of 80.6 degrees.

The previous record was set in 2000 with an average temperature of 80.1 degrees.

That year also set the record for warmest meteorological Spring - which is defined as March, April and May - with an average temperature of 74.6 degrees.

The NWS says that same timeframe in 2024 produced the third warmest Spring on record, with an average of 72.8 degrees.

Records at the airport go back to 1947.
