New Orleans leaders plan to put up fencing around areas of the Claiborne Avenue corridor where homeless camps were recently cleared.
Joe Threat, the city's deputy chief administrative officer for infrastructure, told a City Council committee on Monday that the state funding for the fences will also be used for beautification projects and graffiti removal.
Other efforts to upgrade the area include the recent teardown of an abandoned building, and the closure of a tire shop that had reportedly become a hub of criminal activity.
