A former Jefferson Parish deputy is sentenced to probation for the negligent homicide of a man in Marrero two years ago.

A jury convicted Isaac Hughes last month ago of the shooting death of 34-year-old Daniel Vallee in 2022.

In a plea deal, Hughes was sentenced on Tuesday to three years' probation. If he abides by the terms of his probation, he'll avoid a prison term of up to five years.

Hughes has until noon today to check in with probation and parole. He has 30 days to appeal his sentence.
