A suspect is recovering after accidentally shooting himself while running from Louisiana State Police.

On Monday evening, Troop NOLA tried to pull over a car on Elysian Fields Avenue near North Robertson Street, but the driver took off.

After a brief chase, the driver ran into a fire hydrant, and he and his passenger both ran away.

Troopers soon caught Christopher Mitchell, 33, and Eric Abdul, 24. Mitchell had accidentally shot himself while fleeing.

Investigators are trying to figure out which one was doing the driving.
