A new performance testing system may soon apply to all schools and districts in Louisiana.

A committee for the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education unanimously endorsed the system on Tuesday.

State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley says the new system emphases preparing students for college or careers after they graduate.

Louisiana ranked 40th in the nation this year for K-12 education, the state's best showing in years.
