City officials plan to make Plaza Tower presentable when Super Bowl visitors come to town next year.

The idea is to wrap a huge welcome banner around the bottom ten floors of the crumbling office building.

Plaza Tower was vacated more than 20 years ago because of toxic mold and asbestos. Since then, the eyesore has been the site of dangerous falling debris.

In 2021, a cyclist was injured by debris that fell from the structure. Last April, the tower caught on fire and a man died after he fell from a window.

City council members want to get the building secure and safe before the Super Bowl, which is scheduled to be played on February 9, 2025 in the Caesars Superdome.

Michael Hecht, the state's Super Bowl Coordinator, says he doesn't know who'll foot the six-figure bill for the wrap, but it won't be taxpayers or the building owner.
