A new state law gives Louisiana colleges more flexibility in setting their tuition and mandatory fees.

House Bill 862 became law without Gov. Jeff Landry's signature.

The law allows the boards of Louisiana's four university systems to set differential tuition for any graduate, professional, or high-cost undergrad programs. The boards will also have total control over mandatory fees.

University systems won't be allowed to raise fees or differential tuition more than ten percent every two years, but will be able to lower them without limits.
