Jefferson Parish Schools To Provide Free Breakfast, Lunch To All Students

Jefferson Parish school officials say they'll provide free breakfast and lunch for all 48,000 of their students in the coming school year.

The National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program reimburses the district, but only for a set amount.

The district will pay the difference if the program exceeds that amount. Last year the district earmarked about $600,000 for the excess.

This year, there are no forms for students or families to fill out, largely because so many of them are still learning English.
