Eight New Orleans police officers are learning life-saving skills from New Orleans EMS.
Police often encounter wounded or injured people at a scene that's not yet safe for EMS to respond to.
The officers are learning to use tourniquets, pack wounds, and apply other life-saving techniques, with the goal of becoming certified Emergency Medical Responders.
A spokesperson says officers are more comfortable responding when they're better trained, and EMS has a stabilized patient when they arrive.
