Amtrak service between New Orleans and Mobile may soon be restored for the first time since Hurricane Katrina damaged the tracks in 2005.

The Louisiana and Mississippi state governments are paying their part of the local cost, but so far Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey hasn't committed anything. That leaves the city of Mobile to foot the bill.

A vote of approval is expected from the Mobile City Council by next week.

Amtrak plans for the rail service to start in the first quarter of 2025.
