Officials say the initial phase of cleaning up an oil spill in Bayou Lafourche is expected to take about another week.

Lafourche Parish President Archie Chaisson says 34,000 gallons of oil were released from the Crescent Midstream facility, and about half of it ended up in the bayou.

Chaisson says the spill hasn't affected the local drinking water supply.

No injuries have been reported, but 21 dead animals have been found.

The spill was first reported on Saturday morning. As of Tuesday evening, the cause is still unknown.
