Southeastern U.S. Watches Atlantic For Possible Tropical Development

The National Hurricane Center continued to watch the western Atlantic for potential tropical development.

"A large tropical wave located near the Lesser Antilles continues to produce a broad area of disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity," wrote the NHC's Dr. Philippe Papin and Dr. Christopher Landsea in a Wednesday morning tropical weather outlook. "Environmental conditions are forecast to gradually become more conducive for development while the system moves generally west-northwestward over the Greater Antilles and towards the Bahamas."

"A tropical depression could form by this weekend while the system is in the vicinity of the Greater Antilles, Bahamas, or near Florida," they added. "Interests in the Greater Antilles, the Bahamas, and the southeastern U.S. should monitor the progress of this system."

There is no immediate threat to Louisiana from this system and at this time, local impacts are not expected. Residents are urged to review their hurricane plans as we enter the peak of the season, which ends November 30.
