Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams is being called to Baton Rouge to explain some of his resentencing decisions to state lawmakers.

Court records show Williams's office resentenced a number of prisoners in recent months, some of whom are now free.

Sen. Jay Morris, the chair of the Judiciary Committee, says he's planning a hearing within the next few weeks to learn more about the resentencing agreements.

Gov. Jeff Landry has tweeted his support for the hearings, which Morris describes as a fact-finding exercise.
