Entergy Louisiana and DEMCO are preparing for power outages that are likely to follow Francine's arrival.

Both utilities have officially put their storm plans into action.

Entergy is putting about 5,000 workers in the field, at least 1,400 of whom will focus on cutting branches that may fall on power lines.

A spokesman says restoring power to hospitals, fire stations, and police departments will be prioritized.

DEMCO has about 500 people standing by to help restore power in the seven parishes the company serves.
