Officials in Jefferson and Orleans Parishes are asking residents to reduce their water usage in the wake of Hurricane Francine.

Water has penetrated the sewer lines in Jefferson Parish, raising concerns about the capacity of the sewage system.

Residents and businesses are urged to cut down on doing the dishes and washing laundry for the time being.

The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans says several pump stations suffered power outages and other issues.

Conserving water will help restore the system to total capacity.
