A new study says Louisiana ranks ninth in the nation for the number of nighttime traffic accidents.
Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says about 56 percent of the state's accidents happen at night.
LSU's Center for Analytics and Research in Transportation Safety says the most dangerous stretch is from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., when speeding and DWI are common.
Another factor is low visibility caused by poorly lit rural roads and Louisiana's frequent bad weather.
