The homicide rate in New Orleans, once labeled the nation's "murder capital," is down by nearly half in the past two years.

The NOPD released data last month that show a 48 percent drop in murders since 2022, and even larger double-digit declines in carjackings, armed robberies, and juvenile murders.

Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick says other cities are wondering how it's done.

Traditional policing has helped, along with the NOLA Coalition, a group of business, civic, and community leaders who advocated for police pay raises and invested in local nonprofits that work with kids in the city.
