Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry is pushing to solidify a temporary salary increase for Louisiana teachers, but it requires voter approval.

The state faces a shortage of 2,500 teachers, leading to heavier workloads and difficulty attracting new talent.

Cynthia Posey from the Louisiana Federation of Teachers says while the pay raise is a step in the right direction, more action is needed to make salaries competitive.

College graduates in education earn 27 percent less than their peers, further complicating retention.
