Louisiana officials plan to spend tens of millions of dollars over the next two months to expand the state's juvenile detention centers.

At the start of the summer, Governor Jeff Landry and state lawmakers diverted $100 million from a state savings account to upgrade criminal justice facilities. A significant part of the funding will be used to increase the space available to incarcerate young offenders.

The exact amount hasn't yet been decided. State and parish officials could apply for the criminal justice grants in September.
