Despite protests from local leaders, Louisiana State Police are currently clearing a large homeless encampment in New Orleans.

The orders to clear the encampment under the U.S. 90 overpass near Calliope Street and Loyola Avenue were issued by Gov. Jeff Landry ahead of Taylor Swift's three shows this weekend at Caesars Superdome.

Despite calls from New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell's office and homeless advocates, state troopers and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development arrived on the scene around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning and began forcing residents to pack up and move.
