The Saints' starting quarterback is expected to return from injury.

Head coach Dennis Allen said Wednesday that he expects veteran signal caller Derek Carr to start Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Carr has missed the last three games with an oblique injury.

Allen confirmed that Jake Haener is serving as Carr's backup after rookie Spencer Rattler started in Carr's absence. The Saints' coach would not go into the specifics of the reasons why, but said he believes that it's the best thing for the team.

New Orleans is third in the NFC South at 2-6.
