Proposed new taxes on digital services are on their way to the full state House of Representatives after clearing a committee on Monday.

The 4.5-percent tax on services such as Netflix, Disney+, and gaming are part of a broader tax reform agenda supported by Gov. Jeff Landry.

Proponents point out that 44 other states already tax digital services.

The new tax would apply to luxury items like digital movies, videos, live events, music, and e-books, but essential services like telehealth would be exempt.
