Kenner police are reporting nearly 300 arrests since June in an ongoing crackdown on phony temporary license plates.
Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley says the fake tags often indicate drivers with no license or insurance.
Conley says one out of every four drivers they pull over with a bogus plate is either unlicensed or uninsured.
The Kenner PD formed a task force to deal with the situation.
Conley says he's urging state lawmakers to do something about the fact that it's too easy to get a phony tag.
