The Pelicans are adding a veteran to their backcourt.
New Orleans is signing point guard Elfrid Payton following early-season injuries to Dejounte Murray and CJ McCollum. The 30-year-old is entering his ninth NBA season and his second stint with the Pelicans.
He also played with Pels coach Willie Green while with the Orlando Magic during the 2014-15 season.
Payton averages 10.1 points and 5.7 assists through 500 career games split between the Magic, Pelicans, Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks.
