A new reform law allows Louisiana residents with outstanding fines for car insurance violations to reset their debts.

The reform was championed by Gov. Jeff Landry and Commissioner Dan Casey of the Office of Motor Vehicles.

More than 350,000 drivers are eligible to pay only the original fines without the additional penalties, which previously could balloon from hundreds of dollars to tens of thousands.

Drivers can either pay the reduced amount in full or arrange a payment plan.
