City officials are scrambling to reassure tourists that New Orleans is safe, following a weekend in which nearly a dozen people were shot.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell held a rare press conference on Monday, joining NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick to defend the police department's crime-fighting initiatives.
Cantrell said the weekend's three shootings in the Canal Street area were mostly caused by out-of-towners.
Kirkpatrick pointed out that homicide numbers are still down month-by-month and annually compared to last year.
