An emergency sanitation contract with IV Waste is now in effect.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced on Sunday she'd signed the contract.

The company recently landed the one-year contract for emergency garbage collection in the French Quarter and the Downtown Development District.

The emergency bidding process started after the City Council didn't approve an eight-year deal with the previous contractor.

A judge ordered the Council last week to move forward with a $73 million contract that may go back to the prior contractor.

The City Council is expected to appeal the ruling.
