President-elect Donald Trump has endorsed House Speaker Mike Johnson as he seeks to maintain his leadership role in Congress. Trump announced his support on Monday (December 30), praising Johnson as "a good, hard working, religious man" and expressing confidence in his leadership. Trump stated, "Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement," in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
"The American people need IMMEDIATE relief from all of the destructive policies of the last Administration. Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man. He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement," Trump wrote.
Johnson's position as speaker faced uncertainty following a contentious debate over a federal funding plan that nearly led to a government shutdown before Christmas. Although a deal was reached, the incident highlighted challenges within the Republican Party and raised questions about Johnson's influence.
Johnson has worked to align himself with Trump, assuring the president-elect that he will address the debt ceiling issue in 2025. Johnson's leadership will be tested as he aims to navigate the challenges within his party and meet the expectations set by Trump.
