The Louisiana Supreme Court is agreeing with state officials in a ruling that says state police can clear homeless camps in New Orleans.

The court on Thursday blocked an injunction intended to halt state police sweeps of the camps across the city.

New Orleans officials claimed Governor Jeff Landry exceeded his authority by ordering the sweeps, which reportedly interfered with city efforts to find housing for the homeless.

The justices ruled that the state police have the authority to clear away the encampments.
