A woman has been identified as the driver who struck and injured multiple Philadelphia Eagles fans while they celebrated the team's NFC Championship Game win and Super Bowl LIX berth Sunday (January 26) night.
Rebekah DeShields, 26, of Narberth, was charged with aggravated assault, driving without a license, simple assault, reckless driving and other related offenses, officials confirmed to NBC Philadelphia on Monday (January 27).
DeShields was driving a silver Mercedes-Benz GLA250 when she struck multiple people during an incident that resulted in eight individuals being injured including some who sustained fractures. Several clips shared on social media shows the Mercedes-Benz plowing through the large crowd of people.
The incident took place minutes after a person fired gunshots into the air at the intersection of Frankford and Cottman Avenues in Philadelphia, according to X user @Philly_Captain, who shared a clip of the incident. Several bystanders appeared to be confused and looking around after the shots were fired. FOX 29 reporter Steve Keeley confirmed that the Philadelphia Police Department was probing the incident.
A total of 31 citations were issued for disorderly conduct or failure to disperse with 30 adults and one juvenile being charged in relation to the massive celebration, according to NBC Philadelphia. The Eagles defeated the NFC East Division rival Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game and will face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on February 9.
