Officials in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes are discussing the possible development of a four-acre plot of land below West End Park.

State officials also spoke at a meeting on Tuesday that attracted an attendance of several dozen people.

Waterfront restaurants were on the site from the 1960s until Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Local residents would like to see a mix of retail, restaurants, and park space, but state law bans residential development on the site.

The two parishes have agreed to split tax revenue from the property 50-50.
