The Supreme Court is hearing a case in which civil rights groups and Republican officials are tentatively aligning to defend a Louisiana congressional map.

The map includes two majority Black districts for the first time in decades.

The justices took up the state's appeal over its efforts to draw a map while being sued by both sides of the aisle about whether it appropriately considered race.

The original map drawn after the 2020 census included just one Black majority district, but about a third of Louisiana's population in Black.

Now, the court will decide if the map will stay in place.
