The race for Jefferson Parish Council is headed for a runoff after Saturday's primary election.

Democrat Andrea Manuel was the top vote-getter, with Jean Lafitte Mayor Timmy Kerner Jr. close behind.

Republican Ricky Templet, a former parish council member, came in third.

In the final weeks of the campaign, Kerner and Templet ran attack ads.

Manuel and Kerner will face each other in a runoff election scheduled for May 3.
