IKEA is reportedly showing interest in a possible location in Kenner's struggling Esplanade Mall.
The shopping center never recovered after Hurricane Katrina, and Hurricane Ida in 2021 didn't help.
City officials say it would be a boost to the local economy for IKEA to revitalize the mall.
Kenner is funded largely by sales taxes, and the presence of the Swedish furniture and home goods retailer would generate major tax revenues.
It could also help attract more tenants to the nearly empty mall.
